PUNE: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has identified 100 dangerous properties in its limits.

The PCB had undertaken a survey of about 3,000 properties in the backdrop of a slab collapse, which claimed one life on June 26 on Dastur Meher Road in Camp.

Subrat Pal, chief executive officer, PCB, said, “Our officials have identified 100 dangerous properties in the survey. We have decided to hold meetings with some owners and tenants to resolve their differences in the coming days.”

“We have permitted four owners to carry out minor repairs that will prevent further deterioration of their properties. We endeavour to ensure the safety of the occupants in these houses,” Pal added.

According to the PCB survey, most of the unsafe structures are on Boottee Street, Dastur Meher Road and a part of Sachapir Street, J J Garden, Old Modikhana, Taboot Street, Meher Mohalla, Bhimpura Lane, Centre Street, VP Street and a part of Shimpi Ali.

“These are decades-old properties that have not been repaired,” said a senior official from the engineering section. Officials pointed out that a majority of cases pertain to those where landlords do not permit tenants to carry out repairs. The tenants also do not want to give up their tenancy rights and continue to live dangerously. “Some cases are in court while some matters can be resolved amicably. After the house collapse incident, many owners have realised the importance of repair work,” said a board official.
