10 Squads Posted To Speed Up Property Tax Collection, Real Estate News, ET RealEstate
NAVI MUMBAI: In an attempt to help swell the civic treasury through a major source of revenue, the Panvel City Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has deployed as many as 10 special squads for issuing pre- seizure notices to those who have defaulted property tax despite appeals and reminders.
The special teams have been instructed to target the major defaulters who paid no heed to civic warnings. The PCMC commissioner and administrator Ganesh Deshmukh has ordered the team to crack the whip on the defaulters so that development activities could be carried out with the recovery.
Additional staff have been appointed to issue pre-seizure notices to the major defaulters. Meanwhile, the civic body has issued notices to a total of 750 defaulters, comprising 100 industrial properties, 301 residential properties and 349 commercial properties across the nodes like Kharghar, Kalamboli, Kamothe and Panvel. It may be recalled that, PCMC had already pocketed over Rs 200 crores in the form of property tax collection during the first two quarters of the fiscal year ending September 30.
According to civic sources, property tax has been the major source of revenue directed for developmental projects such as infrastructures and public amenities. In case the defaulters failed to pay the outstanding property tax after receiving the notices, their immovable properties may be subject to auction after the seizure procedure gets over.
Meanwhile, the property holders have been intimated about the notices through mobile messages to clear their dues and avoid further action. Civic body said that the property tax collection so far has been encouraging, which mustered a record collection of Rs 210 crores till end of October.
