Valpoi police raids illegal laterite stone quarry at Nagargao, ET RealEstate

VALPOI: Officials of the directorate of mines and geology along with Valpoi police on Thursday raided an illegal laterite stone quarry at Nagargao, Sattari.

The officials seized two horizontal laterite-cutting machines, three power trailers, three generators and one loaded truck. The estimated cost of the seized machinery is worth Rs 10 lakh.

An official of the directorate of mines said that they had received a complaint regarding an illegal stone quarry being operated at Nagargao. “Upon receiving the complaint, our team immediately reached the site and raided the quarry,” the official said.

The officials of the mines department handed over the seized machinery to Valpoi police for further investigation. The officials also found six labourers working at the site. They were apprehended and handed over to Valpoi police.

The FIR has been lodged against the owner of the property Ranjitsingh Rane and the operator of the quarry Rama Kharwat who is also the deputy sarpanch of Nagargao panchayat.
